Shapovalov Has Had a Below-Par Season
It has been quite a forgettable season for Shapovalov and that has been no different from what he has done on grass so far.
Despite starting out the year with a quarterfinal appearance in Adelaide and then making the third round at the Australian Open, the Canadian has an overall win-loss record of 10-12 for 2023.
On grass, he started off with a first round defeat at the Stuttgart Open and while he then defeated Lloyd Harris in Halle’s opener, there wasn’t much he could in the second round. Shapovalov went down 6-2, 6-4 to Alexander Zverev.
This comes on the back of two widely contrasting grass court seasons for Shapovalov. In 2021, he had reached the semifinal at Wimbledon where he put up a fighting display against Novak Djokovic before crashing out.
On the other hand, he won just one of the five matches he played in 2022. And by the looks of how things have gone in 2023, Shapovalov looks more likely to repeat his 2022 showing than the 2021 one.

Albot Finally Makes it Through the Qualifiers
In the two previous grass court competitions that Albot played this year, he had had to go through the qualifiers to make the main draw.
He did not.
At Stuttgart, Albot lost to Christopher Eubanks in the second qualifier. He followed that up with a straight-set loss in the opening qualifying round in Halle against Andrea Vavassori.
Which is why winning three successive matches in the qualifiers at Wimbledon would come as both, an achievement and a relief. Nick Hardt, Johannus Monday and Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves were all sent packing but even there he did endure some difficulties, losing a set apiece in the second and third round.
Can he now put up a fight against a player ranked 29th in the world?
Shapovalov v Albot Prediction and Tip
Shapovalov will be a huge favourite but Albot has featured in a few more matches on grass this season and that could give him a bit of an advantage. Shapovalov in four sets.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Albot to win a set: 4/7
- Moderate Risk Tip: Shapovalov to win AND Both players to win a set: 6/5
