Nicolás Jarry v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the Challenger circuit where Cecchinato defeated Jarry in a 2017 encounter on clay.

Jarry Falls in Eastbourne Opener
While grass has never been Jarry’s most preferred surface, he looked to have taken the confidence of his performance on clay this season on to that surface too.
And Jarry did that by shocking Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round of the Halle Open. Unfortunately for him, he went down fighting in the quarterfinals of that tournament to Alexander Zverev but what followed would be slightly off-putting for Jarry.
He was beaten by Gregoire Barrere in the Eastbourne International opener despite starting out a 1/2 favourite there.
What one can gather from his performances so far is that Jarry hasn’t yet found his footing on grass but the adrenaline from his clay form has flown rather nicely on to other surfaces. Plus he will face a player who has had trouble doing too much on grass anyway, giving Jarry a chance to make it to the second round here for the second time in his career.

Cecchinato is a Purebred Dirtballer
Cecchinato’s record on clay is far superior to that on any other surface but even more vitally he barely plays outside of red dirt.
Having made his professional debut in 2010, Cecchinato has played a total of 197 matches at the highest level and only 60 of them have come outside of clay. In more recent times, this percentage has dropped even further as Cecchinato has attempted to focus on regaining his previous best.
Speaking of which, Cecchinato was ranked 16th in the world at one point but has quickly descended to 88th at the moment and has found it difficult to break back even in the top 50 since.
At Wimbledon, Cecchinato has featured four times and never won a main draw but that’s not a lot different from his overall showing on grass. From the nine matches he’s featured on it, Cecchinato has won just two matches there.
As a result against Jarry, Cecchinato starts off a whopping 21/2 underdog!
Jarry v Cecchinato Prediction and Tip
Jarry should win this but I have serious concerns about this being as one-sided as it’s portrayed to be.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Jarry to win the first set and win the match: 1/5
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 25.5 games in the match: 5/6
