Nishioka Hasn’t Won on Grass Since 2021 Wimbledon

That Nishioka doesn’t prefer playing on grass seems quite clear from his record on this surface. And from the fact that he doesn’t play too much on this surface anyway.

The Japanese player comes into this year’s Wimbledon tournament having not played a match on grass since he was knocked out of this very tournament in 2022. Yep, Nishioka hasn’t taken to court since he reached the fourth round at the French Open this year, missing all three of the ATP grass court competitions in the process.

Which is why Nishioka will be a bit of unknown quantity coming into this tournament, especially against a player who has himself not done much on grass.

What could go in Nishioka’s favour is his overall form this season and more so in the last tournament he played.

Galan’s Sole Grass Court Appearance Ends in Round One

Having fallen to 87th in the world, Galan will need to turn things around drastically if he wants to win this opening round match even if he’s going into it against a player who has struggled on grass in his career.

That’s because Galan’s overall record for this season has been anything but spectacular.

In fact, Galan enters this tournament with a mere two main draw wins in 2023 at the highest level. He might have made it to the final of one of the Challenger tournaments he’s featured in and there have two other semifinal appearances there but here’s the catch – all of those have come on clay.

On grass, Galan hasn’t had too much going for him either and that will allow Nishioka to shrug off his own weaknesses here.

Nishioka v Galan Prediction and Tip

While there’s not much to choose between the two we will have to go with the experience of Nishioka. Expect both players to win a set though.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Nishioka to win: 4/5
  • High Risk Tip: Nishioka to win AND Both players to win a set: 2/1
