Bencic on a Slow Roll
Belinda Bencic, current World No. 14, is heading into Wimbledon with no practice. Her last tournament was the French Open, where she fell to Elina Avanesyan (then #134) in round one.
Her decision to open warm-up tournaments ahead of the London Slam may come as a strange one. That said, the Swiss has done well on the traditional courts through the years and perhaps, that alone can help her navigate the tide against Swan.
She has five finals on the surface (1-4), including the two German Open finals in 2021 and 2022. That said, in Wimbledon, Bencic has made it as far as round four just twice, while the last two times, she has had to settle for first-round losses.
Overall this year, Belinda has had a good time. She is 20-7 – a feat that entails two titles from Adelaide and Abu Dhabi and a runner-up trophy from Charleston.

Swan in a Rut
Katie Swan, World No. 146, is starting in Wimbledon on the heels of 11 wins and 13 defeats.
Her saving grace has been her runner-up accomplishment in ITF Surbiton. With the exception of that tournament, the Brit never managed to win more than one match in a main draw in any WTA or ITF affair.
Swan’s last tournament was the Gaiba Challenger where she retired in round two against Ashlyn Krueger at 3-6, 6-4, 5-5.
As for her run at SW19, the 24-year-old has made it as far as round two just once.
With no WTA finals or any top-10 wins to her name, Swan is in for a battle. What may help her is Bencic’s lack of practice on grass.
Bencic v Swan Prediction and Tip
For all intents and purposes, Bencic starts as the favourite here. As a former World No. 4 with many big victories under her belt, she should be confident of taking on Swan and winning comfortably.
That said, punters may want to consider the possibility of an upset too.
Tips:
- Low-Risk Tip: Bencic to win: 3/7
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
