Jelena Ostapenko, current World No. 17, last played in Eastbourne International, where she retired against Camila Giorgi in the quarterfinal. Trailing 6-7(10) in the first set, the Latvian withdrew from the rest of the match.

Up until then, Jelena enjoyed a decent campaign on grass – beating Harriet Dart and Barbora Strycova in straight sets in the competition. Before that, she won the title in Birmingham – defeating Linda Noskova, Venus Williams, Anastasia Potapova, Barbora Krejcikova, and Anastasia Potapova en route.

Ostapenko’s record for the season stands at 26-13. In addition to the grass title, she was a semifinalist in Rome and a quarterfinalist in the Aus Open.

In Wimbledon, the 26-year-old has a good history. She has reached the QF stage twice; most recently, round four in singles and the semifinal in doubles in 2022.

Belgium’s Greet Minnen started her campaign in London as a qualifier. The current World No. 121 beat Eugenie Bouchard, Robin Montgomery, and Darja Semenistaja in straight sets.

Looking at her history at SW19, her best performance came in 2022 when she reached round two.

The 25-year-old has had a hard-working spell in 2023. Minnen is now 41-11 with two ITF titles and numerous late-stage appearances on the circuit.

On the WTA Tour, however, Greet’s performance hasn’t been half as impressive, with a runner-up showing in the Saint-Malo Challenger being her highlight. Her last tournament was the German Open where she lost to Jule Niemeier in the qualifiers.

As a doubles player, too, she has done well. She is now 22-4 with three ITF trophies, one Challenger cup, a QF show in Roland Garros, and a semi-finalist in Den Bosch. Minnen’s singles record is slim, no doubt, when compared to Ostapenko’s. That said, her opponent is not invulnerable to shocking losses.

Ostapenko v Minnen Prediction and Tip

This should be a good match. Ostapenko is likely to be tested by a more confident Minnen. The Latvian starts as the favourite to win, but an upset is on the cards.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Ostapenko to win: 3/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
