Kontaveit in Her Last Tournament
Kontaveit was ranked second in the world last season but at just 27 years of age has been forced to call it quits from the sport of tennis because of a chronic back injury.
The now 79th-ranked player will be featuring in her final tennis tournament here at Wimbledon as she looks to overcome her previous best of a third round appearance here.
Needless to say, Kontaveit enters Wimbledon on the back of some poor form.
She featured in only three clay court tournaments before this, losing her openers in Madrid and Roland-Garros and winning just a round in Rome. Overall, Kontaveit has played 10 matches at the highest level this year and won a mere three.
Which is why, while Kontaveit will be up against a player ranked 110th in the world, things might not be as easy for her

Stefanini Hoping to Get Past Her Career-Best Ranking
Stefanini has been around in Grand Slam tennis since featuring in the 2021 US Open but it was only earlier this year at the Australian Open did she finally make it to the main draw. And Stefanini also recorded her first ever win there, defeating Tatjana Maria in her opener in Melbourne.
While she did not make it past the qualifiers at the French Open Stefanini has now qualified for her second major and would like to emulate her showing at the Australian Open.
In her second season playing grass court competitions, Stefanini has already done better than last year when she had ended on a 2-4 record. Her only two victories in 2022 had come in Gaiba and the Wimbledon first qualifying round.
This season, she made the quarterfinal of the WTA 125 event in Gaiba and then defeated Carolina Alves, Priscila Hon and Su-wei Hsieh in the qualifiers to enter the main draw. Won’t count her out of reckoning in this opener either.
Kontaveit v Stefanini Prediction and Tip
While Kontaveit is a favourite here, we think Stefanini could make things rather difficult for the Estonian on the grass courts of Wimbledon. Expecting a hard-fought win either ways.
Tips:
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
