Their only previous meeting came at the 2019 Washington Open where Peterson surprised Stephens in straight sets.

Stephens Opts to Not Play on Grass

Stephens has found a bit of a rhythm on a tennis court in recent times but that has been restricted to clay.

After having made the semifinal of the Rabat Open, Stephens followed it up with a fourth round appearance at the French Open which pushed her win-loss record for the season to 17-12.

Rather interestingly, Stephens opted not to feature in any of the tournaments on grass in the lead-up to Wimbledon this year, which means the last time she had won a match on grass was back in 2021 when she made the third round at this very tournament.

That year, again, she had come into Wimbledon with no grass competitions under her belt. She will hope she can at least emulate that success again here.

Peterson Struggles on Grass

The last time Peterson won a match on grass was four years ago in Eastbourne. The Swede had made the third round there before getting knocked out by Angelique Kerber.

Unfortunately for Peterson she hasn’t done too much of note on grass since.

And coming into this season and attempting to play at Rosmalen, she had even gone into her first round match against Ashlyn Krueger as a favourite. She lost 6-1, 6-2 instead, underlining again the problems that come for Peterson with playing on grass.

The only piece of good news for her is she will be up against a player who has had her own issues on this surface. Not just that, Peterson will hope she can take advantage of Stephens’ lack of grass court tennis for the season.

Stephens v Peterson Prediction and Tip

Stephens holds the advantage, starting out at 2/5 to win this but we can expect Peterson to push this into the distance. If not the third set, then at least a hard-fought two-setter.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Stephens to win: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
