Rakhimova Under-Par on Grass

After having what one could describe as an acceptable set of results on grass last season, Rakhimova enters this year’s Wimbledon on the back of some sub-par performances.

The Russian, who had qualified at the Bad Homburg Open last season before winning her maiden main draw match on grass, featured in two tournaments on the same surface this year and did nothing of note.

In fact, been forced to go through the qualifiers at those events, Rakhimova was sent packing in the first qualifying round at both those tournaments – in Birmingham and Eastbourne.

Losing to Jodie Burrage at one of those was probably not that big of a shock given the home support that her opponent had but Rakhimova would have known she was in trouble as she went down to the 190th-ranked Marcela Zacarias in Birmingham.

Can she turn things around here in the opener?

Bucsa Hoping to Emulate Australian Open Showing

Till late last year, Bucsa had never won a match in a Grand Slam tournament.

She finally broke that drought at the US Open where she stunned Kaja Juvan in her opener before losing in the second round. And then this year at the Australian Open, Bucsa went one better. First she edged out fellow qualifier Eva Lys in the first round before shocking Bianca Andreescu to make it to round three of the event.

As a result of these performances Bucsa has not only broken into the top 100 this season but also hit a career-high of 66th in the world.

A string of poor results on clay, which isn’t Bucsa’s most preferred surface pushed her down to her current ranking but she looked to have turned the needle a little bit during the grass swing.

The Spaniard won a couple of qualifiers at the Birmingham Open to make the main draw and while she fell to Barbora Krejcikova there that was still better than her opponent’s performances on grass.

Can she now win her maiden main draw match on grass?

Rakhimova v Bucsa Prediction and Tip

Bucsa holds a very small edge coming into this one and might be slightly overvalued at 4/6 for this encounter. Rakhimova hasn’t been in form, sure, but we reckon there isn’t too much between these two players.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Rakhimova to win: 13/10
