Burrage Has Had a Strong Grass Season

Having fallen to 131st on the WTA Rankings after losing in the first round of the Surbiton ITF competition, Burrage looks to have finally found his rhythm this season.

The Brit went on a solid winning run at the Nottingham Open where she defeated the likes of Magda Linette and Alize Cornet on her way to the final. She fell to Katie Boulter in the title-decider there.

A first round loss at the Birmingham Open followed suit before she made the main draw of the Eastbourne International as a lucky loser. A first round win over Lauren Davis would have given Burrage some confidence but she then lost to Cori Gauff 6-1, 6-1 to end her stay in the tournament.

Grass has been good to her overall but can Burrage now find herself her first win in the main draw of a Grand Slam?

McNally Hoping to Emulate Australian Open Showing

Earlier this year, McNally had made it to the second round of the Australian Open. It was the second time in her career that she had done so there and she will now hope she can do something similar at Wimbledon too.

Because unlike the Australian Open – or the US Open – McNally has never won a round at Wimbledon.

And facing a player ranked about 60 places behind her gives McNally a good chance of doing that too.

She enters this tournament on the back of successive grass court competitions where McNally made the second round. Unfortunately for her, she couldn’t make it further. While a defeat to Anastasia Potapova in Birmingham might have par for the course, she would have expected to do better than to lose to Celine Naef, a player who has never been ranked better than 165th.

Can she shrug that off and dish out an easy win against Burrage?

Burrage v McNally Prediction and Tip

While McNally is an obvious favourite, Burrage has some form and will have the support of the home fans here as well. Expect this to be a keen tussle that goes deep.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 4/5
