Choinski Has Never Won a Main Draw Grass Match Even at Lower Level

Choinski is 27 and has just hit his career-best ranking but that’s 167th in the world, an indicator of how difficult things have been at the highest level for the Brit.

Another such indicator is his performance on grass with Choinski having never won a main draw match on grass. Not at the highest level, and nor in the Challengers.

Even this season, the Brit has been a part of three grass court competitions, including one on the Challenger circuit and two ATP tournaments. He fell in the first round of the Nottingham Challenger, went down in the opener at Queen’s Club and then lost in the second qualifying round of the Eastbourne International.

Choinski did enter the main draw in Eastbourne as a lucky loser but didn’t last too long against Liam Broady after that.

Can he put up a fight against a player who has himself struggled to get going on grass?

Lajovic’s Not Played Any ATP Tennis on Grass This Year But…

…he enters Wimbledon on the back of two appearances in the Boodles Tennis Challenge exhibition competition. What he did there was quite spectacular, defeating Diego Schwartzman and Stefanos Tsitsipas in successive matches.

That should hold him in a good stead but it must be quickly added that Lajovic doesn’t do too well on grass, historically speaking.

The Serb has been around on the circuit since 2007 when he turned a pro but he has registered a sum total of six wins on this surface, to go with 16 defeats. At Wimbledon, Lajovic has won a round on four occasions including last season but hasn’t gone beyond that – his worst Grand Slam performance.

Against Choinski though, Lajovic will have a chance given his opponent’s discomfiture on this surface.

Choinski v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

Lajovic can be expected to hold a slight edge but with a bit of a crowd support, Choinski could push the Serb here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Lajovic to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 39.5 games in the match: 5/6
