Nottingham Semi-Finalist Koepfer

Koepfer has already enjoyed a highly encouraging season on the Challenger tour, reaching four finals in the space of two months, and winning events in Mexico and Italy.

However, what all those events had in common is that they were on clay, Koepfer’s preferred surface, and he does not have the same degree of success away from it, although, four years ago, he was a beaten finalist on grass at Ilkley.

And Koepfer did reach the third round of Wimbledon in 2021.

He has only played in one Wimbledon warm-up event, and that was in Nottingham, where he can take some satisfaction from his efforts, reaching the semi-finals before losing to the Frenchman Arthur Cazaux.

Otte Forced to Qualify This Year

Otte reached the third round of Wimbledon last year, and, later in the year, reached his first senior final, losing in the doubles of the Sofia Open.

But, having been ranked as high as 36 in the world last year, this season has been a different story altogether. His form has sharply declined, and, as a result, his ranking has plummeted.

Now Otte is having to rely on wildcards for tournaments that he would automatically have qualified for a year ago, like Stuttgart and Halle recently.

And it also meant that he was forced to undergo the rigours of qualifying for Wimbledon.

Otte’s passage was easy enough to start with, a straight sets win over the Frenchman Benoît Paire.

But then it became progressively more difficult, as Otte was taken to three sets by Leandro Riedl of Switzerland, and four by Max Polmans of Australia.

Koepfer v Otte Prediction and Tip

Despite being forced to qualify this time, Otte is the more experienced of the pair, and with Koepfer more at home on a clay court, he will be hoping to exploit the conditions to his advantage.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Otte to win: 7/10
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 40.5 games in the match: 4/5
