Vukic Makes Wimbledon Main Draw Debut

This will be a Wimbledon main draw debut for Vukic, and he has only ever entered the qualifying competition once before, and that was two years ago, losing in the first round.

In fact, apart from his home event of the Australian Open, where he has received several wildcards, his only previous Grand Slam appearance was a first round defeat at Roland Garros in 2020.

However, three finals on the Challenger tour, and one of them a win in Buslan, South Korea, where he beat compatriot Max Purcell, have helped propel him up the rankings. His grass court form so far this season in singles has been modest.

Vukic suffered first round defeats on the Challenger tour in Surbiton and Nottingham, and a failure to qualify for Queen’s Club. He did qualify for Eastbourne, and beat the American Brandon Nakashima before losing to Miomir Kecmanovic in the second round.

The Australian, though, was a beaten finalist in the doubles at Surbiton.

Altmaier Struggling on Grass

Altmaier has also been a winner on the Challenger tour this season, picking up a title in Sarasota in the USA in April.

That, though, was on clay, his favourite surface. He trains in Argentina, and demonstrated his liking for the surface by reaching the third round of the French Open this year, his best result in a Grand Slam since making the fourth round of the same tournament in 2020.

Grass, though, is not something Altmaier appreciates, and his only previous appearance in the main draw at the All England Club ended in a first round defeat last year.

Nor have there been any signs that an improvement can be expected this year.

He was beaten easily in straight sets in the first round of Stuttgart, by the Australian Christopher O’ Connell, and failed to qualify in Halle.

Vukic v Altmaier Prediction and Tip

This match is guaranteed to produce a first time Wimbledon winner.

Vukic may not have been pulling up any trees on grass so far this season, but he still claim better results than the German, who struggles on the surface.

That makes the Australian the favourite to make the second round.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Vukic to win: 8/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 41.5 games in the match: 17/20
