Liam Broady v Constant Lestienne Head to Head

They played twice so far with both winning one match. Broady won the only match on grass last year.

Shaky Play On Grass from Broady

Liam Broady is British and as such is expected to play really well on grass. For the most part that’s been somewhat true in his career but his overall record on the surface is not great.

It’s not British at all at 33-54. It’s not that great this year either at 2-4 and while he did face some tricky opponents, most of his matches were matches he could have won. The year overall has been pretty good from his at 23-14 but the grass level has just been shaky.

The draw gave him a player he can beat on grass. He actually did at last year’s Nottingham challenger but it was a very close one that went to three sets. He would be wise to avoid going long with Lestienne at Wimbledon though the French player has been very injury-prone this year.

A solid but tricky drwa for Broady who is favoured in the match.

Lestienne Will Need to Turn Things Around

Constant Lestienne hasn’t played very good tennis this year struggling with multiple injuries throughout the year. It prevented him from playing regularly which is how you build up form and confidence. The overall record is quite poor at 9-16 though a third of those wins came on grass.

Lestienne is 3-4 on the surface this year earning two wins in Surbiton weeks ago and another one in Mallorca. The overall play is very in line with how he generally plays – very hot and cold. He beat Denis Kudla in Surbiton, a very good grass player.

He beat Jason Kubler in Mallorca, another great grass player so it’s clear that he can play really well on the surface it’s just that you never know when that good level is coming.

He’s the underdog against Broady and for good reason but he can win that match. I do think he’s going to make it interesting by winning at least a set.

Broady v Lestienne Prediction and Tip

Both of these players are hard to predict because neither is playing very ‘stable’ tennis right now. To me it ready like a typical 4-5 set match so that’s what we’re going with.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 3.5 sets in the match: 4/6
