Mayar Sherif v Rebeka Masarova Head to Head

It’s 1-1 between the two ladies. They last met in ITF Oeiras this season, where Masarova won in straight sets.

Sherif Fielding Clay Pedigree

Number 31 seed Mayar Sherif is coming off a brilliant clay season that has propelled the Egyptian to a career-high ranking of World No. 31.

She won consecutive Challenger tournaments in Makarska and Valencia and also reached the quarterfinal in Madrid. Unfortunately, she didn’t emulate these results in the Rome Open or French Open – but she did gain valuable experience and confidence.

Such results have been hard to come by on other turfs for Sherif. While she is 19-6 on clay, she is just 4-8 on hard turf and 1-1 on grass. Before Wimbledon, she played in Bad Homburg, where she lost in round two to Lucia Bronzetti.

Mayar’s last time in Wimbledon was in 2021, where she lost in the opening qualifying round. This time, she is seeded and has good momentum. The question is if she can handle the complexities of traditional courts.

Masarova in Decent Form

Rebeka Masarova of Spain is coming off a quarterfinal showing in Bad Homburg. After beating Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Bianca Andreescu in straight sets, she retired against Emma Navarro after leading 7-6(2), 1-1.

Before that, she featured in Berlin, where she fell to Nadia Podoroska in the opener.

It is yet to be seen if there are fitness problems here for Masarova, but that aside, she has had a good spell in 2023.

Now 28-14, Rebeka was the runner-up in ITF Oerias and WTA Auckland (as a qualifier). She also reached the semis in La Bisbal Challenger.

Compared to Sherif, Masarova has shown more all-court versatility – which may be a deciding factor in this match.

Sherif v Masarova Prediction and Tip

#69-ranked Masarova should fancy her chances here. She seems to be more comfortable on grass and hard when compared to Sherif. If she is at her best physically and mentally, we may be looking at an early exit for the 31st-seeded Egyptian.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Masarova to win: 1/1
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games: 5/6
