Gojo Set for Wimbledon Bout
Borna Gojo has twice taken to the qualifying rounds at Wimbledon in each of the last two years, but lost at the first hurdle.
It’s a bit of a mystery how he has struggled. A player of his stature standing at 6ft, 5 inches tall and with a massive serve ought to have at least made it to the deep end of qualifying.
This year, Gojo’s ranking of No. 103 met the cut-off entry following a spate of withdrawals, otherwise, the Croat would have needed to go through the rigors of qualifying again.
The 25-year-old plies his trade frequently at the Challenger level where he won a maiden title last year and reached a further two finals this season.
The Croat has compiled a 98-73 record on the ATP’s second tier in comparison to his record on the main tour which reads 11 wins from 26 matches.
His previous taste of grand slam main draw competition was at the 2022 French Open where he qualified for the tournament before defeating Alessandro Giannessi in the first round.
Gojo arrives at this year’s Wimbledon with a 3-3 record in the tune-up tournaments. Having stood on the cusp of a top-100 ranking, he has dropped down to 111th ahead of the Championships.

Marterer Outlasts Marozsan to Qualify
Maximilian Marterer snapped a four-match losing streak in Wimbledon qualifying. The German lefty had a couple of routine wins in the opening two rounds, defeating Luciano Darderi 5-7 6-1 6-1 and Gauthier Onclin 6-2 6-2.
That set up an enthralling final round against Fabian Marozsan – the newest top 1oo member from the Challenger circuit who upset Carlos Alcaraz at the Rome Masters.
Marterer built a two-sets-to-love lead, 7-5 6-4, in just over an hour. But the last round of qualifying was a best-of-five match, so Marterer lost his concentration despite coming within a tiebreak in the third set from sealing his spot in the main draw.
Marozsan wiped off Marterer’s lead in a flash and won the next two sets to force a deciding fifth set. The Hungarian broke the German for just the second time in the match at the start of the last set. But that lead didn’t last long as Marterer’s experience in grand slam competition aided his cause.
Despite losing in qualifying in each of his last three slams, it was the 28-year-old’s clever serving that turned the set around, breaking Marozsan twice to claim the win.
Gojo v Marterer Prediction and Tip
