Russia’s Anastasia Potapova is coming off a good run. Competing in the Birmingham Classic, she made it to the semifinal – beating Marta Kostyuk, Caty MacNally, and Harriet Dart en route.
Her record for the season is an impressive 25 wins to 13 losses. She is also ranked World No. 23 – which is just two places shy of her career-best ranking of #21.
Potapova has displayed mastery of all courts this year, which does bode well for her chances at Wimbledon. Her best result in the London Slam was reaching round two back in 2019.
In February this season, Anastasia won her second WTA career title – the Linz Open. Later, she reached the quarterfinal in Miami (beating Coco Gauff en route) and the semifinal in Stuttgart (win over Caroline Garcia in the quarters).

18-year-old Celine Naef of Switzerland is set to feature in her first Grand Slam main-draw match.
She has had quite a season so far; she has already bagged 31 wins while losing just eight matches in the process. Naef also has two ITF titles to her name from the year, along with a few late-stage appearances.
Celine also did well for herself at the Libema Open, where she made her WTA debut as a wildcard. Against overwhelming odds, she ended up dismissing the former #1 Venus Williams and Caty McNally in three sets to reach the quarterfinal.
Here in London, she started as a qualifier and beat Kristina Dmitruk, Ashlyn Krueger, and Dayana Yastremska to reach the main draw.
Potapova v Naef Prediction and Tip
Age-wise, it is just a difference of four years between the two, but Potapova is obviously fielding a lot more experience and top-tier wisdom. She will start as the favourite.
That said, first-round upsets are common, and Naef certainly seems more than capable of making this happen. Expect an intriguing match.
