Despite joking around on social media as if he didn’t prepare for Wimbledon, Ruud actually prepared very well for the event. He explained his reasoning as the importance of Wimbledon as a Grand Slam event and the amount of points it gives out.
He certainly brought out some of his good stuff beating Laurent Lokoli in four sets. The Norwegian took the opening set 6-1 but lost the second one 7-5. After that, he consolidated his play to win the match in four sets. Ruud didn’t serve that well but was very solid from the baseline.
Lokoli had an aggressive approach and actually hit more winners than Ruud but also had more winners. The Norwegian spread out his 35 winners better to end up winning the event.
A pretty good start from Ruud though he can and quite probably need to be a bit better moving forward.

Broady Cruises in Opener
Liam Broady didn’t have a really great time on the grass this year but the Brit was able to get it done in the most important match. The first round of Wimbledon against a tricky opponent, though no issues for him.
A straight set powered by 6 aces and 24 winners against an opponent who really didn’t bring his best tennis. Constant Lestienne was all over the place, quite literally hitting 52 winners in three rather short sets. There were only 28 games played and he had 52 unforced errors which is almost two per game.
That’s just a very poor performance and Broady benefitted from that. The Brit didn’t play the cleanest of matches himself as he had more unforced errors than winners too but he did what he need to do to go to the next round.
Ruud will be a much tougher opponent and he will need to do better, much better if he hopes to win the match.
Ruud v Broady Prediction and Tip
While Broady did look solid, Ruud looked more solid. He’s the better player and I expect him to win the match.
