Wolf Tames Couacaud in Opener

In a match that did not trouble Wolf too much, he managed to overcome French qualifier Enzo Couacaud in straight sets to make it to the second round.

Having come into this year’s Wimbledon on the back of a quarterfinal appearance at the Eastbourne International, Wolf was on court for a touch over two hours to seal a 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (4) victory over Couacaud.

It was Wolf’s serve that held the test of time in the match, with none of the four break-points he faced resulting in any problems for the American.

He faced 16 aces too while Couacaud raised his game to hit 38 winners to go with that but Wolf managed to stave all of that off as he found a way to get past his opponent’s serve on two occasions. And in the third set when Wolf failed to do that, he held the edge in the tie-breaker.

Things could now get slightly tougher for him against an opponent ranked 22 places ahead of him.

Bublik Makes it Six Wins in a Row

It’s been a turnaround of sorts of Bublik. This is the same guy who had kick-started the season with eight successive defeats. So much so that he ended up smashing a few rackets in a match out of sheer frustration of not being able to find his rhythm.

Here we are six months on and Bublik has now won his sixth match in a row and hit a career-best ranking of 26th in the world.

What makes this even more special is his Halle Open title win two weeks ago saw him defeat Borna Coric, Jan-Lennard Struff, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev – the whose who of competitive tennis.

Here in the first round, he looked to have found his match in the first set in the form of Mackenzie McDonald but things turned around soon after that. Bublik registered a 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win in two hours and 51 minutes over his American opponent to make it to the second round for the third time in a row.

Both the previous times, Bublik had also entered the third round here. Can he do that again?

Wolf v Bublik Prediction and Tip

We will be going in with the pre-match favourite Bublik to win this. While we can expect Bublik’s run to come to an end at some point, it might take a top-10 or a top-20 player to do so.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Bublik to win: 11/20
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Bublik to win AND Both players to win a set: 13/10
