Bookmakers had tipped Yoshihito Nishioka to win this, with the Japanese number one starting out 8/11 to clinch his opener against Galan.
It turned out to be a different result than expected but what was more surprising was that Galan, who had just won two matches on grass in his career before this, turned things around on its head. He not only won the opener but did so in such fine style that it left a lot of the onlookers shocked.
Galan was on court for a mere hour and 51 minutes in which he defeated Nishioka 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 to make the second round.
This was the third time in a row that Galan had won his opener at Wimbledon with the world number 85 reaching the third round last time after Roberto Bautista-Agut retired from their encounter.

Qualifier Otte Eases Past Koepfer
On the one hand was Otte who had come into this tournament on the back of some wretched form. Form that had plumetted his ranking to 233rd in the world.
On the other, fellow German player Dominik Koepfer was starting out as an 86th-ranked player and didn’t need to come through the qualifiers.
Still, Otte had shown glimpses of what he’s capable of during the qualifiers with his serve bailing him out on multiple occasions. He made the first round at Wimbledon for the third time in a row and then sent Koepfer packing in straight sets.
Otte won 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (9) after saving two set-points in the third set tie-breaker.

Otte starts off as a favourite here and that’s no surprise given his serving prowess which has been on display all of this tournament. This could go to the fourth set though.
