The Australian Open winner comes into this tournament with a chance of ascending to the world number one spot for the first time in her career and Sabalenka sure made the world sit up and notice again.

Sabalenka, who was beaten early in the only grass court competition she played in Berlin before this tournament, did not waste any time in getting past Panna Udvardy in her opener here.

In a match lasting an hour and three minutes, Sabalenka crashed the Udvardy party 6-3, 6-1, facing – and saving – two break-points in the encounter. In turn she broke Udvardy four times.

Serving eight aces, Sabalenka won 75% of her service points while Udvardy struggled to get that figure to up to 50% even for first serves. 29 winners punctuated Sabalenka’s game as compared to a mere four for her opponent.

Things will get a little tougher but for now, Sabalenka looks to have got all her bases covered.

Gracheva Blows Giorgi Off the Court

In what was expected to be a one-sided match that was supposed to go against Gracheva, it turned out to be one that saw her crush Camila Giorgi and move to the second round.

Gracheva, who had made just a solitary appearance at Wimbledon before this, losing in the first round in the 2021 edition, won her maiden match in this tournament here in straight sets.

In a match lasting an hour and 28 minutes, Gracheva routed Giorgi 6-2, 6-4 to set up this meeting against Sabalenka.

Three successive breaks of serves kick-started Gracheva’s campaign and while she did lose her serve while serving for a 6-0 scoreline, she quickly won the next service game. In the second set, Gracheva took a 3-1 lead with another early break and while this time around Giorgi held firm, she was unable to break back.

This follows a quarterfinal appearance at the Bad Homburg Open for Gracheva following a first round loss in Berlin in what have been her first set of victories on this surface.

Can she now make life difficult for Sabalenka?

Sabalenka v Gracheva Prediction and Tip

No surprise to see Sabalenka start off a 1/12 favourite and we expect her to come through in two. Don’t expect this to be a too long a contest either.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Sabalenka to win in straight sets: 1/4
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
