Jeremy Chardy v Borna Coric Head to Head

The two have four times before, with each man having won twice. Chardy won in Melbourne in 2015, and on the clay of Monte-Carlo two years later. For his part Coric won in Estoril in 2015, and, perhaps, more crucially, in last year’s Davis Cup Final in Paris.

Chardy Looking to Bring Back those Old Days?

Chardy put an end to his run of losing singles matches, which had been spread over five tournaments, by beating Nicolas Jarry of Chile in the first round on Thursday, but it was a desperately close encounter, with Chardy winning a tense third set-tie break to progress.

He had a much more comfortable encounter with his compatriot and doubles partner Gilles Simon, winning in straight sets, and will now be looking forward to his meeting with Coric with renewed confidence.

Ironically, it has been his doubles form that has sustained him this year, but, for once, his participation in that event in Miami has ended before his singles’ campaign. Partnering with Simon, he was beaten by Jarry and Franko Skugor.

Chardy was once ranked 25th in the world, and has now slipped to 40th but can he return back to his glory days after that string of horrible form earlier this year?

Coric to Benefit from Nishikori Exit?

Cori had his own struggles in his first match in Miami, dropping the second set to love, before coming through in the third set to see off Spain’s Roberto-Carballes Baeno.

However, having got here, he has a good chance to reach the quarter-final at least, after the early departure of Kei Nishikori from his part of the draw, beaten by Dusan Lajovic.

The 22-year-old hasn’t had a great year so far though, with a second round loss at the Miami Masters and an opening match defeat at Marseille. A semi-final in Dubai and a fourth round appearance at the Australian Open even things out a tad but the pressure of another early exit here at Miami would be great.

Chardy v Coric Predictions & Tips

Chardy will start the favourite for the match at 11/18, whilst you can get 8/5 on Chardy (bet365) . The Frenchman has done well, given his recent travails on the singles’ court, to get here, but Coric should have too many weapons for him.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (betway)
