Holger Rune v Roberto Carballes Baena Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the clay courts of the Cordoba Open last year and it was Carballes Baena who had won that. Things have changed drastically in Rune’s career since then.

George Loffhagen had a wildcard to feature in his home competition and while he came up grittily in his opener, Rune’s class and temperament became too much for him to handle as the match wore on.
Rune came away a straight-set winner in a match lasting two hours and six minute to seal his second round berth at Wimbledon for the first time in his career.
The world number six won 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-2 after having made the semifinal of the Queen’s Club competition earlier last month. He had also won his sole exhibition match at Hurlingham against Andy Murray there.
Rune dished out 34 winners to go with his 20 unforced errors and saved all five of the break-points he faced. His serve improved as the match went on too, losing eight points off it in the first set and six each in the next two.

Carballes Baena Wins Maiden Match at Wimbledon
Carballes Baena has featured on six occasions at Wimbledon before this and never before has he won a main draw match.
This time around he entered the tournament on the back of some good form but that was on other surfaces. It had allowed him to break into the top 50 and he was settled in at 57th before the start of Wimbledon 2023.
Having featured in two grass court competitions before this, Carballes Baena had won just one match there too, which meant that despite drawing the unheralded Matteo Arnaldi, the Spaniard was a distant second-favourite according to the bookmakers.
He turned those odds on their head as Carballes Baena came back from a set down to defeat Arnaldi in four.
In a match lasting a touch over three hours, Carballes Baena clinched a maiden second round place with a 6-7 (0), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 win.
It would be a different proposition taking on Rune though.
