Nicolas Jarry hammered 14 aces to just one double fault en route to his 4-6 6-2 6-4 6-1 win over Marco Cecchinato, picking up just his second main draw win at Wimbledon.
The match was initially scheduled for Tuesday but was canceled for the day due to heavy showers. They were able to lift their rackets on Wednesday, but not for about an hour or so until the match was suspended due to darkness.
They were able to resume on Thursday where Jarry managed to overcome a first-set wobble to dominate the Italian one-hander.
Jarry did not face a single break point in the next three sets after going behind 6-4 in the opening stanza. In that timespan, he broke Cecchinato no fewer than six times.
The Chilean won 87% first-serve points and tallied 40 winners to 26 unforced errors. He had yet to progress beyond the second round at Wimbledon but will enter Friday’s clash against Jason Kubler as the odds-on favorite.

Kubler Survives Five-Set Rollercoaster
Jason Kubler survived a five-set rollercoaster to defeat French lefty Ugo Humbert 6-4 4-6 6-2 3-6 6-3, to make it three Australians in the second round.
Kubler led Humbert two sets to one when play was suspended on Wednesday due to poor lighting. With the lead overnight, the World No. 77 was brought crashing back in the fourth set, as Humbert recovered from an early break to six of the next eight games to level the match.
In the decider, Kubler was the man pulling the strings, as he fashioned three break points in one game which Humbert saved at a go. But the Aussie had another bite of the cherry, late in the fifth set, and this time he made his advantage count when he broke in the eighth game.
Kubler wasn’t out of the woods though and needed to save a repel a pair of break points while serving for the match to secure his hard-fought five-set epic.

It’s been tough not just for the tournament organizers, but players as well trying to come to terms with the makeshift schedule. Fast recovery is critical here as there isn’t enough time to work fully on fitness and tactics. Taking both players to earn a set might be a smart play with a slight edge to the more consistent power player – Jarry.
