Their only previous meeting came in the 2019 Davis Cup and it was Galan who had carved out a 6-1, 6-2 win.

Ymer had gone into his second round match against Taylor Fritz as a huge underdog, starting out at 13/4 odds in the encounter. Two sets into the encounter it looked like the match was all done bar the shouting with Fritz pocketing both and looking to finish off the encounter.
In what became the comeback story of the tournament, Ymer got the first top-10 scalp of his career as he overcame Fritz 3-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to make it to the third round at Wimbledon for the first time in his career. The result would have come as a huge surprise for Fritz who has now failed to make the second week at all three majors this season.
Three breaks of serves against him cost Ymer the first two sets before Fritz broke the Swede for the fourth time in the very first game of the third set.
It was probably the break-back in the very next game that gave much-needed confidence and from that point onward it was all one-way traffic. So much so that Ymer faced just two break-points from that point onward.

Galan Ends Otte Short Run
For the second match in a row, Galan had started off a second favourite in this tournament. And for the second time, he managed to overturn those odds to register a win over his opponent and reach the third round at Wimbledon again.
Galan, who has never gone beyond the third round at a Grand Slam, came through 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3) in a battle of wits against a player who is known for his serving prowess.
What made all the difference is Galan out-served him, slamming 12 aces to his 11 and winning 82% and 53% of his first and second serve points respectively to his opponent’s 74% and 46%.
This follows a shock, straight-set win over Yoshihito Nishioka, having entered this tournament on the back of a first round exit at the Eastbourne International as a qualifier.
