Ekaterina Alexandrova v Dalma Galfi Head to Head

The pair have played each once before, on the hard courts of Zhuhai in 2017, Alexandrova winning in straight sets.

Alexandrova Wins Epic Encounter with American

This is unchartered territory as far as Alexandrova is concerned, never having been beyond the second round at Wimbledon before.

But she has now faced two American opponents and beat them both.

Emma Navarro in the first round did not cause her too much difficulty, and she beat the world number 55 in straight sets.

The second could not be said for Madison Brengle, the world 114, whom she played in the second round, and they would go on to have an epic struggle.

The tone was set in a tight first set, which saw a break apiece, and then a tie-break, which Brengle finally claimed.

Unforced errors and dropped serves ratcheted up in the second set, which was eventually decided by another tie-break. And this time it was Alexandrova who finished on top.

The third set became a battle in its own right, as the momentum swung first one way and then the other.

Alexandrova had the chance to serve for the match and earned herself three match points. However, Brengle not only saved them all, but broke back as well.

Almost inevitably, it went to another tie-break, which saw Brengle save yet another match point.

But, when the next one came along, Alexandrova finally made it count.

Galfi Has Twice Come From a Set Down

Last year, Galfi reached the second round here, but she has now gone one better after two battling performances.

She began by causing a minor upset, beating the Czech teenager Linda Noskova, the world number 45, despite conceding the first set to her.

Next up she had a German opponent in the form of Jule Niemeier, and again the Hungarian found herself in the position of coming from behind.

Galfi actually forced the first break of the match, but Niemeier responded with two breaks of her own to take the first set.

Both women had a number of break points in the second set without being able to convert any of them.

In the subsequent tie-break, Niemeier was within two points of winning the match, but it was Galfi in the end who took it.

And that was the queue for the German’s form to collapse and she won only a single game in what became a very one-sided third set.

Alexandrova v Galfi Prediction and Tip

Having got this far at Wimbledon is a novel experience for both women.

However, the disparity in world rankings suggest that Alexandrova will be the one celebrating after their match.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Alexandrova to win: 1/6
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 4/5
