After battling past Dominic Thiem in a five-set, three-hour-and-57-minute first-round contest, Stefanos Tsitsipas edged past Andy Murray in a four-hour-and-43-minute second-round contest, which also went the distance.
In a gripping contest that spanned over two days, Tsitsipas struck 90 winners to Murray’s 54. The Greek also served 17 aces and won a staggering 169 points of a total of 345 in the match.
Tsitsipas also won 48 net points in the match, eventually winning the contest 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (2-7), 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
Against Thiem, Tsitsipas had struck 70 winners and won 173 of 331 total points.
With back to back wins over past Grand Slam champions, Tsitsipas as now reached the third round at Wimbledon for the third time in his sixth attempt. His best remains a fourth round finish in 2018, while he lost in the round of 32 last year.
With a 35-13 overall record this year, the Australian Open runner-up will be hoping to go deep in the grass court major this year. He has a relatively easier third round opponent to deal with and should make it to the second week for the second time at Wimbledon.

Djere Takes Down Shelton
Laslo Djere moved into the third round at Wimbledon for the first time in his fifth attempt as he knocked out American Ben Shelton in four sets.
Djere, the world no. 60, saved 9 of 11 break points and converted 3 of 12 to beat the 32nd seed 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.
The Serbian had also won the opening round contest in four sets, beating another American, Maxime Cressy, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (9-7). Djere had struck 15 aces and 60 winners to 23 aces and 66 winners from Cressy, but he also made just 23 unforced errors to Cressy’s 48.
This is only the third time that Djere will be featuring in a third round contest at a major and it will be the first time outside Roland Garros.
He is 4-2 on grass this season and 22-17 across levels. Can he pull of a surprise win over the world no. 5 on Saturday?
