Barring the loss of the first set in his third round match against Quentin Halys, Sinner has been at his best throughout the tournament. His fourth round victory over Daniel Elahi Galan was another pointer towards that.

And it was a pointer towards his fitness, which looks to be giving Sinner no problem having entered the tournament with some issues around it.

Sinner was stretched a little in the first set of his fourth round match but two hours and 40 minutes later, managed to carve out a straight-set win over Galan. He took down his opponent 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-3.

After missing out on five break-points and saving three in the first set, Sinner clinched the tie-breaker and then shrugged off a 2-4 deficit in the second set to win seven games in a row. By the time Galan had won another game, the writing was already on the wall for him as Sinner eased to the victory.

What could be a bit of a concern for Sinner is his inability to close out breaks of serves, having missed 17 such opportunities in the encounter. He will need to do a lot better than that in the business end of this tournament.

Safiullin Sends Shapovalov Packing

Before coming into this tournament, the 25-year-old Safiullin was never ranked better than 82nd on the ATP Rankings charts.

He had also never made it past the second round at a Grand Slam. And never past the qualifiers at Wimbledon.

All of those unwanted statistics are now behind Safiullin as he takes to court for this year’s Wimbledon quarterfinals with his ranking having already risen into the top 50 as things stand.

And this was possible for Safiullin after he overcame the first set loss at the hands of Denis Shapovalov to win his fourth round encounter. The Russian came through 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 in a match lasting two hours and 12 minutes.

It follows Safiullin’s shock defeat of Roberto Bautista-Agut in the first round and wins over Corentin Moutet and Guido Pella in the next two.

Sinner will be a bridge too far too to surmount for Safiullin but his strong serving and good momentum could pose a few question-marks here.

Sinner v Safiullin Prediction and Tip

Sinner starts off at 3/20 to win this but we could see a bit of a tussle from Safiullin. The games handicap market looks tempting at +6.5 for Safiullin.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Games Handicap Safiullin +6.5: 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Sinner to win AND Both players to win a set: 6/5
