Martincova Coming off Solid Showing on WTA 125 Tour

After getting knocked out of Wimbledon in the very first round, Martincova opted to turn her attention to the WTA 125 series and looked to have found some of her lost rhythm back.

In a tournament played at Contrexeville, Martincova overcame the likes of Tatjana Maria and Anna-Lena Friedsam to make it to the semifinal of that competition after having started off from the qualifiers. And while he was knocked out at that stage by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, it would have given her some respite.

After all, Martincova was ranked 71st on the WTA charts at the start of this season but has seen a steady decline in her performances forcing her to fall out of the top 100. She did recover to hit a ranking of 91st in late May but with no real results going her way and with plenty of points to defend from the previous season it’s back to 115th.

She would have improved a little on the back of this semifinal but will that be enough to help her out of the mire she finds herself in?

Saville Returns after a Lengthy Layoff

Featuring at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo last year, Saville ended up with a torn ACL in her opener against Naomi Osaka that forced her to retire from the match and from the rest of the season.

Saville underwent a surgery for the same and was out of action for a period of more than eight months resulting in her missing most of the tennis action this season.

The Aussie returned to action at the Birmingham International last month where she won a qualifier against Madison Brengle but then lost in the second qualifying round. She got a direct entry into the first round at Wimbledon where Katie Boulter got the better of her in the first round.

Having barely had any results going her way on clay, Saville might not find things too easy but then again, she is up against an opponent who has had her own struggles. She could hold her own here.

Martincova v Saville Prediction and Tip

Martincova won’t have it easy despite being the favourite in this one. We can expect this to go into a third set though with Saville putting up a brave front.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
