It’s coming to be around five months on the ATP circuit and in this time, Cressy has won just one competitive match. Once ranked 31st in the world this season, Cressy has shown a sharp descent in the ranking with his fall to his current 58th on the tour.
And that has been down to his horrendous run that has seen him feature in 14 matches and lose 13 out of those.
In fact, Cressy won one at Eastbourne recently having gone 11 matches in a row without a victory before that.
He enters the grass courts of Newport on the back of a 1-4 win-loss record on this surface for the season. Of course, Cressy has had a good record on grass otherwise, having won his maiden – and only title on this surface.
And where did that title victory come? Here in Newport.
Which means that for one he will start off with a lot of confidence but at the same time it also means Cressy has a few points to defend here.

Michelsen Made ATP Debut in Mallorca
It was only recently in Mallorca that Michelsen played in his first ever main draw match at the highest level, having qualified for that tournament as a lucky loser.
Michelsen lost to Lloyd Harris in the qualifiers there before going down to fellow American Christopher Eubanks in the opening round of that competition.
However, that looked to have given him some confidence as Michelsen then made it through to the semifinal of the Chicago Challenger in the week following that. He overcame Kei Nishikori in the last eight stage there too and at the time of writing, was tied at one set apiece against Shang Jungcheng in the last four round.
What Michelsen will hope for is to build on this form and confidence when he takes on a player who has been in a rotten run. The only question is if Michelsen can get himself enough rest coming into this opener.

This could be a good chance for Cressy to take down a player who is ranked outside the top 200 and will be doing a lot of jet-setting between tournaments as well. Expecting Cressy to edge past his opponent here.
