After bowing out of the first round in Wimbledon, Daniel Altmaier played in the Braunschweig Challenger, reaching the quarterfinals of the clay court event.

The German, who is 24-20 across levels this season, has a a pretty good 16-8 record on clay. Altmaier’s best run this season included an ATP 1000 quarterfinal in Madrid.

The 24-year-old, who was a lucky loser in Madrid, also made it to the third round at the French Open, where he beat Jannik Sinner in the second round.

Additionally, Altmaier also won his seventh Challenger title, by triumphing in Sarasota.

World no. 94 Benjamin Bonzi, too, will be playing in Gstaad for the first time. He is currently on a four match losing streak across levels, with his last win coming over Bernabe Zapata Miralles in Monte Carlo.

Overall it has been a strong season for the Frenchman, who reached his first two ATP finals this year. But he is yet to claim his first title.

Bonzi went down to Tallon Griekspoor in the Maharashtra Open final and finished runner-up to Hubert Hurkacz in Marseille.

On clay, he is 2-2 at the tour level in 2023 and has an overall career record of 5-9 on the surface. But while, he hasn’t played a lot on clay at the tour level, he has fair amount of experience on the surface at the Challenger level. He has won two Challenger titles on the surface.

Bonzi is 12-12 across levels this year. Can he improve that record in Gstaad?
