Sebastian Baez v Federico Coria Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two and Baez had won that on the clay courts of Cordoba earlier this. It came in the final of that tournament and the match went into three sets.

Baez Hoping to Overturn Opening French Open Loss

When a clay-court specialist who has already won a title this year and is ranked in the top 40 enters a tournament like French Open, you obviously give him a chance to go deep in the competition.

Baez might not have been one of the favourites to reach the last eight stage but he definitely had done enough to give himself a chance to make the second week.

As it turned out, Baez was bundled out of the French Open in the first round itself, losing to Gael Monfils, a player who has been struggling to make things happen after his return from injury.

The signs of struggle have been there for Baez though with the Argentine failing to do too much of note during the European clay court swing where he won just six of the 13 matches he played.

That being said, he still did a lot better than Coria and could take advantage of that fact.

Coria Falls to Outside the Top 100 Again

It was in February earlier this year that Coria had hit his career-best ranking of 49 on the ATP charts. Less than five months on, he has fallen to outside the top 100 again thanks to a string of underwhelming results since having made the final at Cordoba.

In fact, since defeating Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the semifinal in that tournament, Coria has featured in seven different tournaments at the highest level and lost every single match!

Coria’s only wins since then have come at the Challenger level and even that hasn’t been too much to write home about – there have been a couple of Challenger level quarterfinal appearances.

More recently, he was ousted in the first round of the Braunschweig Challenger, losing another match on clay and to a player ranked 306th in the world in the form of Daniel Masur.

Life against Baez won’t be easy.

Baez v Coria Prediction and Tip

While neither player has been in any kind of spectacular form, Baez will definitely hold the edge and will be our pick to win this too given Coria’s horrid struggles.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Baez to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
