Juan Manuel Cerundolo v Alexander Shevchenko Head to Head
They played once so far and Shevchenko won that match in Madrid.

Cerundolo Enjoys Return to Clay
Juan Manuel Cerundolo plays his best tennis on Clay and it’s not even close. He’s far worse on the other surfaces so when he finally got a chance to return to clay from grass, the Argentine saw his level increase immediately reaching a semi-final.
It was a challenger event and while the draw wasn’t as strong as ATP events are, he still played some of the best tennis he played all year. It ended with a loss against Sebastian Ofner in the semi-final but for the most part, the Argentine looked good.
He has a 29-18 record so far having played a lot of matches but it also shows that he’s been quite up and down. Yes, he’s on the verge of winning 30 matches but he basically wins 2 matches for every loss. There aren’t many deep runs with such a ratio and that’s been a problem and the reason for him being ranked outside of the top 100.
He lost the time he played against Shevchenko but that was one of the strongest events for the Russian. Things could be a bit different in Bastad.

Shevchenko’s Recent Struggles
The last time the Russian won a match was back in May on the 28th when he beat Oscar Otte at the French Open. Since then, the Russian lost four matches including the first of Wimbledon. He didn’t play since then but it’s clear that his level has dropped off since some good performances in the early weeks of May.
Back then, Shevchenko actually faced Cerundolo and defeated him on April 25th. It was a straight-sets win but that was the strongest week the Russian had all year so it might have been an outlier rather than the rule.
I expected this one to be a lot closer because Cerundolo is actually playing far better than the Russian has recently. Shevchenko has a 26-20 score and most of his wins did come on clay but he seems to play a bit better on faster surfaces.
Bastad isn’t that and he’s likely going to struggle in the longer rallies against Cerundolo. He’s still considered the better player though.
Cerundolo v Shevchenko Prediction and Tip
Cerundolo is playing already but I do like the matchup for the Russian. I’ll back him to win again even though it will be a lot harder.
Tips:
- Moderate Risk Tip: Shevchenko to win: 5/6
