Huesler’s Made the Second Round Here Just Once

It’s his home tournament and Huesler has featured at the Swiss Open on five previous occasions. In only one of them, back in 2018, did he win a main draw round and make the second round.

Following that, the Swiss player has lost the openers in three successive tournaments. And this year, Huesler enters this tournament on the back of some rather poor clay form too.

Having begun his clay court campaign at the Mexico City Challenger in March, Huesler has won just one match on this surface at the highest level. That came against Kyle Edmund in Munich before he fell in the second round.

At five other clay-court tournaments, Huesler has lost in the first round.

Which is why coming into this opener against a player who has never been ranked in the top 100 in his career could give him a chance to turn things around a little.

Rodionov Makes it Through the Qualifiers

Such has been Rodionov’s performance and hence his ranking that he has been forced to feature in the qualifiers of most ATP events to make it through to the main draw.

This year, this will be the fourth tournament in which he will make the main draw and for the third time he had had to qualify by winning a couple of rounds at the very least. Rodionov, who has won just one main draw match this season, overcame the 593rd-ranked Mika Brunold and the world number 187 Maximilian Neuchrist to enter the first round.

Now begin his troubles given his lack of results coming into this tournament.

In fact, even looking at his overall career, Rodionov has won just 11 tour matches, of only which eight have come on the ATP circuit.

Can he add to that tally despite the odds?
