Baindl Searching for Consistency
It has been a year of struggle for Kateryna Baindl. The Ukrainian had made her third round debut at the Australian Open this year, but since then she hasn’t been able to score wins consistently.
In fact, she has had far more disappointments than victories this year and as a result of that, she enters the Budapest Open with a 6-13 season record across levels.
Baidl’s best result was a quarterfinal finish in Makarska and is coming off back to back first round defeats in Wimbledon and WTA 125 in Bastad.
The 29-year-old does not have an encouraging record in 2023, but she has done well in Budapest in the past, reaching the last eight stage in 2019 and 2021 and bowing out of the round of 16 last year after coming through the qualifiers.
Can she find some form in Hungary this year?

Szabanin Receives a Wild Card
Kncked out by Martina Trevisan in the first round last year, Natalia Szabanin will be looking to impress her home crowd in the opening round this year.
The world no. 262, who was a wild card last year, will be playing in the tournament for the second straight year. She comes into the tournament with a 9-13 record across levels in 2023.
Szabanin is a good clay court player. She has featured in three clay court finals at the ITF leval, all of them were played last year and she succeeded in winning all three of them.
She is currently on a three-match losing streak and will be playing for the first time in over a month. The last time she played in a tournament, she lost in the first round in Makarsaka.
Can she cause an upset on Monday?
