Rinderknech Has Been Inconsistent

Arthur Rinderknech hasn’t had a huge impact this year. The Frenchman, who reached his maiden final in Adelaide-2 last year, had a decent run in 2022, when he made deep runs in a number of tournaments.

But this year, the 27-year-old has featured in just one tour level quarterfinal and that was in Mallorca, where he had made it to the main draw as a lucky loser.

Rinderknech has struggled in the Challenger tournaments as well and a semifinal finish at the Pau Challenger remains his best effort so far this year.

Rinderknech had begin the season as a top 50 player, but has fallen 38 places in the rankings since the start of the season. He is 7-14 on the tour and 12-19 overall this year.

In his only previous appearance in Gstaad two years ago, Rinderknech had reached the quarterfinals. He is a decent clay court player. It will be interesting to see how far he goes in the tournament this year.

Bagnis Comes through Qualifiers

Facundo Bagnis made it to the main draw with back-to-back straight set wins in the qualifying rounds.

The 33-year-old Argentine, who has found the going tough this year, improved to 16-20 for the season following his two qualifying round wins. Bagnis has had a woeful run at the tour level this year and a 1-7 tour level record is a reflection of that.

As a result of his struggles, Bagnis has constantly slipped down the rankings. He had begun the season at no. 89 but is currently ranked no. 136th in the world.

The 33-year-old’s best have been two quarterfinal finishes at the Challenger level.

In the qualifiers, Bagnis beat Switzerland’s Kilian Feldbausch 7-6, 6-3 on Saturday and then knocked out France’s Geoffrey Blancaneaux 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday.

The lefty is in the main draw in Gstaad for the third time. He lost in the first round in 2017 but was a quarterfinalist in 2018. How far can he go this year?

Rinderknech v Bagnis Prediction and Tip

Bagnis is the better player on clay, and is also coming of good wins in the qualifying rounds, while Rinderknech will have to adjust to clay as he has been playing on grass courts since mid-June. Expect this to be a good battle between the struggling players. It could go the distance, with Bagnis edging past the Frenchman.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Bagnis to win: 1/1
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 26.5 games in the match: 5/6
