Rodina Last Won a Match on Clay in 2019

Having broken into the top 70 on the WTA charts for the first time in 2019, Rodina then opted to take a break from tennis before returning in 2022. And she featured in only five matches last year which had no participation on clay.

It was finally at the Charleston Open that she finally featured on clay this season, about four years since her last win on this surface. Rodina lost in the first round to Leylah Fernandez there.

Since then, Rodina has focussed her attention on grass, playing at Rosmalen, Gaiba and Bad Homburg, and won a couple of rounds. Her victory over Katie Volynets at Bad Homburg despite going in as a 7/5 underdog in that encounter.

Rodina now focusses her attention on clay where she would like to turn things around as well and she has a good chance to do that given she plays an opponent ranked 377th in the world.

Siskova Scrapes Through the Qualifiers

Siskova was once ranked 236th in the world but has now fallen to 377th which is also her lowest rank since August 2021. This has been due to the lack of ITF title wins since that season when she won her third and final such event.

And it’s not just about not winning titles, Siskova hasn’t even reached the final of any such tournament and the semifinal at just one of them.

She followed that semifinal appearance up with back to back first round exits in her next two appearances on the ITF circuit and it was no surprise she came into the qualifiers here as a second favourite in both her matches.

Hard-fought wins over Lena Papadakis and Maria Timofeeva have been surprising results but they would have instilled Siskova with some belief. Whether that would be enough for her to come away a winner here needs to be seen but it could be of great help in the near future.

Rodina v Siskova Prediction and Tip

Rodina holds a very slight edge but we think her experience would count for something and she could come away with a win here.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Rodina to win: 10/11
