David Ferrer v Frances Tiafoe Head to Head
The players have never met on the ATP circuit.
Ferrer Hoping to Continue Solid Swansong Run
Spanish veteran David Ferrer is playing the final Miami Open of his career, and has been on a solid run in the first two rounds. After a convincing win against American Sam Querrey in the opener, Ferrer upset number two seed German Alexander Zverev, after being down a set.
At 36 years of age, Ferrer continues to display the grit, resolve and fighting spirit he was known for during his heydays. With phenomenal crowd support for him, and his half of the draw opening up, Ferrer will be hoping for a decent Miami run.
Earlier this year, Ferrer announced that the Madrid Open Masters in May would be his last tournament.
Can Tiafoe End Ferrer’s Final Miami Run?
American Frances Tiafoe started the year with a quarter final run at the Australian Open, defeating Kevin Anderson and Grigr Dimitrov along the way. ‘Next Gen’ contender Tiafoe has since played below par and not reached the latter stages of any of the ATP tournaments.
Tiafoe had a reasonably routine opener, and will be looking for more consistent results in the week to come. With a strong serve, and a destructive strong forehand, Tiafoe’s game will be well suited for the outdoor hard courts here, having already won at Delray Beach in 2017.
David Ferrer v Frances Tiafoe Predictions & Tips
Tiafoe has had less time on the court thus far this week, and being about 15 years younger than Ferrer, can be expected to be fresh and ready to go. Ferrer on the other hand is coming off a physical match with Zverev and may still be feeling the heavy legs. Expect a keen battle that may go down to the wire. Tiafoe’s agility and less time spent on court in the first few rounds should work to his advantage. Tiafoe to win in three intriguing sets.
Tip: Tiafoe to win in three sets: 18/5 (Betfair)
