Karolina Pliskova v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head
In the four times that the two ladies have met so far, Pliskova has won three of those meetings and she presently leads the Kazakh by 3-1. They met as recently as the 2019 Brisbane International in the first round, where Pliskova won in three sets.
Pliskova Continues to Shine
Week after week, Karolina Pliskova has continued to impress the fans with her quality tennis and more impressively, the level of her consistency. In the season so far, she has made it to the latter rounds every event she has participated in.
She won the tournament in Brisbane and followed it with a semifinal feat in the Australian Open. After that, it was a couple of back to back quarterfinal appearances for the Czech in Dubai and Indian Wells.
Even in Miami, she has been nothing short of excellent, starting with a straight-set win over Petra Martic and following it with a three-set win against Alize Cornet. The reigning Stuttgart Open champion has a decent track record in Miami, reaching the semifinal in 2017 and the quarterfinal in 2018.
Can Putintseva Deliver Yet Another Upset?
The 24-year-old Kazakh has had a rather exceptional time in Miami. Up until the previous week, she went by the tour largely unnoticed owing to a series of uneventful spells. With the sole exception of WTA Sydney where she reached the quarterfinal, she lost early in rest of the tournaments. It is worth mentioning that in Sydney, she defeated the American No. 1 Sloane Stephens.
However, she had a big breakthrough in Miami and has delivered one of the performances in a considerably long time.
She first dispatched Kirsten Flipkens and then defeated the in-form, resurgent Swiss Belinda Bencic in straight sets. After that, she went past the number 11 seed Anastasija Sevastova 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, to set up the Pliskova match.
Pliskova v Putintseva Predictions & Tips
Pliskova is in a much superior form in comparison to her Kazakh counterpart. However, Putintseva has already delivered a couple of stunning upsets and Pliskova may very well be the next in line. This will not be an easy match for the number 5 seed as she is facing a player who is extremely confident and is in a good form.
