Duckworth Rebounds to Beat Lestienne
James Duckworth served 14 aces as he edged past France’s Constant Lestienne in the first round in Newport on Tuesday.
The Australian had conceded the first set and was a break down in the second, when he began the turnaround. He won three games in a row, which included two breaks, to close out the second set.
Lestienne broke in the very first game of the final set, but Duckworth responded almost immediately. In fact, he got back-to-back breaks to lead 4-. The Frenchman staged a mini-comeback to stay in the hunt but a third break in the final game of the set proved to be decisive as the Aussie won 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 in two hours and 33 minutes.
The 31-year-old Duckworth is playing in his first main draw of the ATP tour this year and he is off to a fine start.
Duckworth, who was a quarterfinalist last year, is one win away from making it to the last eight once again this year.

Michelsen Earns First ATP Win
Alex Michelsen earned his first win on the tour as he bounced back from a set down to beat Maxime Cressy in a two hour and 50 minute contest on Tuesday.
The 18-year-old American, who won the Chicago Challenger last week, withstood 23 aces from Cressy. Michelsen too struck eight aces during the match.
He saved all five of the break points that he faced during the contest and converted two of nine to score a 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 7-5 victory.
Michelsen, who was playing just his second tour-level match on Tuesday, improved to 39-14 across levels this season.
Can he now reach his maiden ATP quarterfinal?

Both players scored comeback wins in the first round. Duckworth is the more experienced of the two and has played a lot on grass. He will bank on that experience against the youngster on Wednesday. Expect the Aussie to advance.
