Anderson Easy Winner over Diallo

Gabriel Diallo has never been ranked better than 139th in the world and while Anderson was returning to tennis after having retired from the sport last year, he knew he had a good chance of registering his first win in a while.

The former world number five wasted no time in fact, defeating Diallo 6-3, 6-2 in the first round to enter the next stage.

Anderson, who is a former Wimbledon finalist and has had a good time on grass in his career, slammed 11 aces and won a whopping 92% of his first serve points – an indicator he hasn’t lost his biggest weapon on a tennis court, his serve.

He was broken once but retaliated with five breaks of serves. And it wasn’t like Anderson had any trouble either having lost his serve while serving for the match in the second set at 5-1.

The challenge will rise a little now but Anderson has shown he can deal with that kind of quality.

Brouwer Stalls Purcell in Opener

Much like Anderson, Brouwer also conceded just five games in his opening round match, winning it in an hour and 12 minutes.

Brouwer overcame Max Purcell 6-4, 6-1 in the first round to register his first main draw win on grass in his career, having earlier won only on the Challenger circuit or the qualifiers at the highest level.

He had shown signs of improvement at Wimbledon where he overcame the odds on two occasions in the qualifiers to make the main draw but had then fallen to Alexander Zverev.

The Dutchman managed to save all of the six break-points he faced in this encounter while at the same time was aided by his opponent’s serving inefficiencies when he earned 12 break-points. Brouwer broke him thrice there.

Against Anderson, he might not get all those chances and will need to be a lot more clinical if he wants to have a chance.

Anderson v Brouwer Prediction and Tip

Anderson will have a decent chance of making it to the quarterfinals here given the manner in which he is still serving. Could see a third set though.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Anderson to win: 4/5
