Juan Pablo Varillas v Facundo Bagnis Head to Head
Juan Pablo Varillas leads 4-2 in their head-to-head. However, only one of those matches came on Tour with Varillas winning a first-round match in Cordoba last season.

Varillas Eases Past Lucky Loser Virtanen
Juan Pablo Varillas eased past Finnish lucky loser Otto Virtanen 6-2, 6-3 in just over an hour. It was a good way to bounce back from last week’s shock defeat to Elias Ymer in Salzburg.
Despite landing 56% first serves, Varillas won 21 of 24 first-serve points. Such dominance on serve ensured he did not face a single break point in the match.
Varillas put pressure on Virtanen behind the return, fashioning five break points in the first set and taking two of those chances. He wrapped up the first set in just 32 minutes of play.
In the second set, the Finn only managed to stay on serve for two of his service games before Varillas took total control of the match.
And despite wasting a couple more break points in the seventh game, he was able to break Virtanen in the final game to close out a dominant straight-sets win.
Varillas will look to return to the quarterfinal in Gstaad after a stirring run to the last eight last year as a qualifier.

Bagnis Upsets Rinderknech In Three
Facundo Bagnis earned his third win in Gstaad, as he upset top-50 player Arthur Rinderknech in three sets. Bagnis, who came through two routine rounds in qualifying, had a vastly superior clay court game.
The 33-year-old took about two hours to win 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, just his second main draw victory on the ATP Tour this year.
Bagnis used his heavy forehand to dictate rallies. The first set was the longest and only featured eight games and it was a case of taking chances. It took 47 minutes, and Bagnis saved two break points, while Rinderknech was broken twice.
Rinderknech responded, breaking Bagnis for the first time to take a 2-1 lead. And he increased that cushion with another break for a 5-2 lead. He easily served to 15 to level the match.
With the match evenly poised, the third set was a battle for endurance and surprisingly the older opponent had greater stamina, converting the only break point of the final set.
Varillas v Bagnis Prediction and Tip
Varillas and Bagnis came through in contrasting styles, but both looked impressive. If you account for qualifiers, the Argentine has now won four of his past five matches which is nice momentum to have heading into Thursday’s match. These two players have never played a snoozefest before, and we reckon we might see each earn a set here.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 8/15
- Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 11/8
