Anett Kontaveit v Su-Wei Hsieh Head to Head
The two players have met only once and that meeting took place in the 2015 WTA Guangzhou. Kontaveit won that match in straight sets.
A Remarkable Run for the Two Ladies
Kontaveit and Hsieh aren’t among the most consistent players on the WTA tour and have been under the radar for quite some time. However, following their superb performance in Miami, they will surely be noticed now.
Both the players started their campaign with a bye into the second round. Hsieh, on her path to the quarterfinal, delivered some impressive results like defeating the number 1 seed Naomi Osaka and the Danish No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in three sets.
Meanwhile, Kontaveit battled past the likes of Amanda Anisimova and Ajla Tomljanovic to reach the fourth round. Over there, she faced the reigning Indian Wells Open champion Bianca Andreescu. The Estonian quickly gained a 6-1 lead in the first set before Andreescu withdrew from the match. With that, Kontaveit got an easy walkover into the quarters.
Hsieh has the Edge Here
The 33-year-old Taiwanese has had a better season in comparison to Kontaveit. Even though neither of them has won a singles title this year, Hsieh has been a lot closer to winning one than Kontaveit.
She reached the semifinal in the Auckland Open and WTA Dubai, losing respectively to Andreescu and Petra Kvitova. Meanwhile, Kontaveit enjoyed her best run in Indian Wells, where she reached the third round.
In terms of title, Hsieh has won three of them while Kontaveit has won only one. However, the young Estonian was the runner-up in Wuhan Open last season – one of the better performances of her career. Additionally, Hsieh has also got massive winning experience from the doubles circuit – a feat that can come in handy here.
Kontaveit v Hsieh Predictions & Tips
Hsieh has been far more threatening than Kontaveit over the last week in Miami. Following two major wins, she is sailing high on confidence and it will be difficult for any player to stop her. Kontaveit also lacks the experience on the whole here although, last season, she defeated many top players like Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki, and Petra Kvitova. It is fair to say that as a singles player, she is fairly better than Hsieh.
This will be an interesting match to follow.
Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 17/20 (Unibet)
