Francisco Cerundolo v Federico Coria Head to Head

These two have faced off eight times spread across the Futures circuit, Challengers and at the highest level on the ATP Tour and Coria leads 6-2. All eight matches have come on clay with their last meeting coming in Cordoba earlier this season in which Cerundolo retired in the second set.

Cerundolo Makes Short Work of Van Assche

After getting a first round bye and having not played a lot of tennis on clay over the last couple of months, Cerundolo might have come into this encounter against Luca Van Assche with a bit of rustiness. Or at least that’s what the worry might have been.

No such thing happened though as Cerundolo romped to the last eight stage with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Van Assche in the second round.

Cerundolo was broken once in the match and that came as early as in the fourth game of the opening as Van Assche levelled things out to make it 2-2. From that point, however, there was just one-way traffic with Cerundolo breaking twice more in the first set and twice in the second.

While Van Assche saved four match-points on his own serve, Cerundolo made it through off the fifth.

Can he now dish out a similar result against his fellow countryman who has held the edge on him despite being a better-ranked and a higher quality player?

Coria Has No Worries against Borg

After having shocked Sebastian Baez in the first round, Coria wasted no time in getting past Leo Borg in the second and sealed his meeting with Cerundolo.

Having struggled to register main draw wins at the ATP level after his finals appearance at the Cordoba Open earlier this year, Coric doubled his win tally in a matter of two days as he carved out a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Borg.

Coria was on court for an hour and 24 minutes in which he shrugged off an early break of serve to clinch the win. An overall serve win percentage of 66% helped Coria as he also took advantage of his opponent’s second serves, winning 52% of those.

He will now face a player of much higher pedigree but we have seen with Coria that when he gets into this kind of a rhythm on clay it’s tough to stop him. Like was the case for Baez in the first round too.

Cerundolo v Coria Prediction and Tip

Cerundolo is 1/3 to win this but we have to go with Coria to win a set at the very least.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Coria to win a set – Yes: 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
