It took Musetti seven match-points to come through in his second round match and there would have been a feeling of huge relief for him as he made it to the quarterfinal with a scratchy win over Matteo Arnaldi.
Arnaldi battled hard and never gave up till the very end as he came back from a set down to take the match into a decider where he again, fell 2-4 behind to Musetti.
Musetti had multiple chances, including when he served for a 5-2 lead. He was broken in the seventh game and then had four match-points off Arnaldi’s serve at 4-5. Arnaldi saved them all and in the ensuing tie-breaker saved a couple more of the match-points.
In the end, Musetti’s coolness under pressure clinched the day for him as he got himself ahead again at 7-6 and won it off his opponent’s serve.
After having had a first round bye, Musetti did look a tad rusty on his return to clay but with this win under his belt he will start off a favourite against his 21-year-old opponent.

Qualifier Misolic Continues to Surprise
In the first set he featured in this tournament against Karl Friberg in the opening qualifier, Misolic was bagelled by his opponent and looked to be on his way out. Since then, he has put in a lot of fight in every point and managed to make it to the quarterfinal despite having won no main draw match this season before the Bastad Open.
Misolic was fortunate enough to make it to the main draw after Damir Dzumhur retired from their match and then shrugged off the 13/10 odds against him in the first round against Dusan Lajovic.
He won that match in two tie-breakers to seal off his second round berth.
Jozef Kovalik wasn’t quite the favourite going into their round of 16 encounter but when he grabbed the first set and then took the second set into a tie-breaker, it looked like it could swing his way. More so when Misolic had frittered away three set-points from 6-3.
Misolic levelled things out off his fourth set-point and then grabbed the match in the decider when he overcame a 3-0 deficit to win six of the next seven games.
It’s these fighting qualities that will help him in his quarterfinals too one feels.
