Having not played too many matches outside of clay, Sorribes Tormo registered her 14th win of the year on red dirt across all kinds of tournaments and stages when she overcame Nuria Brancaccio in straight sets in the second round. She has lost just seven matches on this surface.
Having started off as a 1/7 favourite to go past Brancaccio after her hard-fought win over Elisabetta Cocciaretto, Sorribes Tormo registered a 6-3, 6-2 win in the second round.
In a match lasting an hour and 44 minutes, Sorribes Tormo had an early trade of service breaks with her opponent but once she had broken for the second time in the fourth game there was no looking back.
The Spaniard went 4-1 up soon enough, converted her first set point to take the lead and broke early in the second set to take a 2-0 lead. She broke one more time in the second set to seal her place in the last eight where she starts off a 9/20 favourite to win.

Burel Excels against Bucsa
Clay is Burel’s favourite surface by some distance and she showed yet again why she has the capability to claw back to the top 75 on the WTA Rankings. For the second match in the running, Burel was a 3/5 – or thereabouts – favourite to win and she lived up to those expectations with a straight-set victory.
Burel sent out Cristina Bucsa 6-2, 6-4 to make the quarterfinal of a WTA event for the second time this season.
Having earlier excelled at the Strasbourg Open, Burel needed a mere 70 minutes to send Bucsa packing after getting the better of her serve on four occasions. This followed her 6-4, 7-5 win against Julia Grabher in the first round.
The Frenchwoman will know she now comes up against a strong favourite and in-form Sorribes Tormo and the question is if she can make her opponent work for her victory.
