Nick Kyrgios v Borna Coric Head to Head
This will be the fourth meeting between the two men, with Kyrgios leading their head-to-head series two to one. Their first meetings came in 2016, with the Australian winning on the clay of Estoril, and Coric on the hard courts of the Cincinnati Masters. Two years later, in the same tournament, Kyrgios avenged that defeat.
Kyrgios’s Form Will Please his Fans
Kyrgios has enjoyed a welcome return to form in the past few months, after a couple of years when his behaviour on, and off, the court were in danger of swamping his talent.
That renewed focus and dedication earned him his fifth ATP career title in Acapulco, with wins against Rafael Nadal, John Isner and Alexander Zverev all achieved along the way to that triumph.
He lost in the second round in Indian Wells, but has bounced back this past week, beating Kazakh Alexander Bublik in straight sets, and then Dusan Lajovic, conqueror of Kei Nishikori, in three sets in his next match.
Unfortunately the sideshow to that match was yet another clash with a spectator, with the pair engaged in a verbal slanging match that was only broken up when the umpire intervened. He will need to control his temper and shut out the crowd in his match against Coric.
Coric Searching for Confidence Boost of Quarter-Final Appearance
22-year Coric came into Miami in mixed form. He got to the last sixteen in Melbourne before losing, surpisingly. to Lucas Pouille of France, and reached the semi-finals in Dubai, but there were early round losses in Marseille, and Indian Wells, where he lost to his veteran compatriot Ivo Karlovic.
It has been no plain sailing here in Miami either. In his first match against Spain’s Roberto-Carballes Baeno he dropped the second set to love, before clinching the match in the third, and then had to battle back from a set down against France’s Jeremy Chardy on Monday.
Still, he knows that he is the highest seed left in his part of the draw, so a quarter-final place is up for grabs for him.
Kyrgios v Coric Predictions & Tips
Despite being the lower ranked and seeded player, Kyrgios starts favourite for this match at 8/13, whilst Coric is priced at 17/13. The outcome may dependent on which Nick Kyrgios shows up for the match. Will it be the man who won the Acapulco Open in such style, or the one who struggles for motivation and looks to pick fights with the crowd?
Tip: Coric to win: 7/5 (betway)
