Ruud Into Second Bastad Final
Top seed Casper Ruud knocked out third seed Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinal on Saturday to reach a second final in Bastad.
The world no. 4 had won the title in 2021 by beating Federico Coria in the final. This year he has reached the final by winning all his matches in straight sets.
He began his campaign in the second round by beating Alexander Shevchenko 6-2, 6-4, and then knocked out Sebastian Ofner 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
On Saturday, Ruud saved the only break point that he faced against the world no. 16, and converted half of the four break points that he held to beat the Italian 6-3, 7-5 in an hour and 47 minutes.
Thanks to the win Ruud is into an 18th final of his career and third in 2023. He won his 10th career title by beating Miomir Kecmanovic in the Estoril final, but finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic in the French Open final. Can he win his 11th title on Sunday? He has a good chance of doing it as 14 of his 18 finals (including the one on Sunday) have been on clay and he is 9-4 in his previous clay finals.
