Kyle Edmund v John Isner Head to Head
These two players have featured in two matches so far in their careers against each other so far and both have won one apiece. Both matches came in 2016, with Isner blanking Edmund at the French Open second round while Edmund responding in kind at the US Open third round.
First Time this Far for Edmund
Edmund has never made it this far at the Miami Masters, having been ousted in the first round on three occasions and twice in the second round. And he could end up equalling his joint-best performance at a Masters tournament if he does manage to win one more match, having gotten as far as the quarter-finals at the Madrid Masters and the Shanghai Masters last year.
In fact, Edmund should be feeling quite proud of his recent form, having begun the year on a slow note. After opening match exits at the Brisbane International and Australian Open, Edmund came back to win the Indian Wells Challenger and said it could be the start of something special.
And since then, a fourth round appearance at the Indian Wells Masters, where he lost to Roger Federer, and another fourth round showing here, having beaten Milos Raonic, should boost his confidence no ends.
Isner Showing Solid Consistency
He might not have won a title this year after having won 12 tournaments in the past six seasons but Isner is already showing the kind of consistency that is needed to go the distance with some help from the draw.
This season, other than his underwhelming showing at the opening two tournaments he played – at Auckland and Melbourne – there have been three semi-final appearances and then a fourth round presence at the Indian Wells Masters.
Also, with two straight-set wins here at the Miami Masters, he will now be gunning for another quarter-final place after his title win last season. What might worry him a tad is despite not dropping a set so far, he has also dropped 23 games across those two rounds.
