Mirra Andreeva v Diane Parry Preview

Head-to-Head: They played once and Andreeva won that match easily at the French Open a few weeks ago.

Mirra Andreeva is the biggest talent in tennis as the 16-year-old proved herself with continued great performances at the Madrid Open, the French Open and ultimately Wimbledon. Clay is her best surface by far and she’ll be happy to return there as she has a 22-3 record on the surface.

Parry equally likes to play on the surface and she has a pretty solid record on it. 15-11 this year while her overall season is a solid 22-22. The French player is a solid player though she hasn’t played that spectacularly lately failing to win multiple matches in a row.

Andreeva defeated Parry at the French Open rather comfortably and I expect a similar result here because she’s just that much better. Anything but an easy win for Andreeva would be a pretty big surprise in my mind.

Andreeva v Parry Tip

Under 20,5 games: 5/6

Aliona Bolsova v Anna Bondar Preview

Head-to-Head: This will be their first meeting.

These two never played against each other and in many ways seem to be on the same level. Both prefer to play on clay and played their best tennis on the surface. Bolsova is 15-11 on the surface and has had a far better year overall so far.

Bondar has largely struggled with her tennis going only 6-8 on clay and 12-17 on the year. That’s quite a bit below the 37-30 record she had last year so it’s clear that she’s experiencing a serious regression. The form favours Bolsova far more as she’s generally been playing better tennis overall and also recently.

I’d argue that the Spanish player is the better player right now and is favoured to win the match. Bondar could make it interesting but I don’t see it personally. Take Bolsova to win the match.

Bolsova v Bondar Tip

Bolsova to win: 1/1

Elina Avanesyan v Evgeniya Rodina Preview

Head-to-Head: This will be their first match.

Elina Avanesyan is finally playing some great tennis this year and it’s been a long-time coming. The Russian was always touted as a rising clay star and she’s certainly backing it up this year with some solid performances. She’s 18-8 on the surface which is the best mark out of all surfaces and it’s no surprise. It’s her favourite surface.

Rodina doesn’t particularly enjoy playing on clay and hasn’t enjoyed it for a while. She’s an experienced veteran who was good on the surface many years ago but as she slowed down, so did her level on the surface drop. She didn’t generally play a lot of tennis this year posting a 4-8 record overall.

Avanesyan is in better form and has actually played consistently this year which matters in a sport that relies so heavily on rhythm and timing. Rodina doesn’t stand many chances in this one and I think Avanesyan wins this comfortably in two sets.

Avanesyan v Rodina Tip

Avanesyan to win 2-0: 3/6

Julia Riera v Maria Tig Preview

Head-to-Head: This will be their first meeting

Julia Riera is a native Argentinian which means that she grew up on clay. It’s certainly evident in her score as she played only two matches away from the surface whiles she played 49 on clay so far. The record is an impressive 35-14 scoreline which explains why she’s heavily favoured on the surface.

Tig is a pretty solid player who can play well on the surface but she’s nowhere near the level of Riera on clay. She’s only 5-4 on the year and hasn’t played that many matches so there are certainly questions about her form and general level.

Most of her matches didn’t come on the WTA Tour and Riera is far better equipped in winning this match and that’s what will happen. I expect a rather comfortable win for Riera though she can complicate things a bit at times. Be careful with this one.

Riera v Tig Tip:

Riera to win 2-0: 2/5
