Wolf Hoping to Improve Upon Clay Record

Wolf had the kind of season in 2022 that propels players towards stardom and over the course of this year he cracked the top 40 on the ATP Rankings charts.

This was thanks to his fourth round appearance at the Australian Open and a semifinals in Dallas where he would have loved to do better as he went down in a final set tie-breaker to John Isner.

In more recent times, Wolf hasn’t been able to continue to show the same amount of sparkle, with just three wins during the grass swing. With clay also not Wolf’s most preferred surface, things looked a little tepid for him since his Miami Masters ouster but he will now hope for a change in fortunes as the US Swing is upon us.

What’s interesting to note is that Wolf has played here twice, failing to qualify for the main draw in 2021 and losing in the first round last season.

Can he now get some sort of a run going here that helps him return to his best ranking again?

Jung Shocks Opponents in Qualifiers

Having never made it to the top 100 on the ATP charts, the 34-year-old Jung is probably hoping for a bit of a dash towards the end of his career.

He has had a solid season at the lower level too, having won one Futures event and made the quarterfinals of two of the Challengers tournaments. As a result, having kick-started the season ranked 396th in the world, Jung has risen to his current – and season-best – ranking of 277th on the circuit.

Despite that, Jung was a second-favourite going into both his qualifiers – a 7/5 underdog against Shintaro Mochizuki and 2/1 odds against Gabriel Diallo respectively. And he won both, needing to put up a brave front in those matches as he needed three tie-breakers in total to come through.

Against Wolf though, Jung will not just need to be at his best but also hope that his opponent’s a tad undercooked if he wants to have a chance.

Wolf v Jung Prediction and Tip

Wolf can be expected to win here and in straight sets too but not before Jung has put up a bit of a show.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Wolf  to win: 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
